True freedom only comes through dependence on Jesus.
Only three humans have ever had the freedom of choice – Adam, Eve and Jesus.
God gave all three the freedom to love Him through obeying His commands. Adam and Eve had only two: Enjoy life and don’t eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Jesus had it a bit harder. He had 613 commands summed up in two: Love the Lord your God and your neighbor as yourself.
All three had the freedom of choice to love God, even when attacked by Satan. Yet, Adam and Eve failed; and then, passed this failure onto the rest of mankind (Ps. 14:1; Rom. 3:23).
Only Jesus, however, was successful with the freedom of choice. And because He was, He could restore to all mankind what Adam and Eve lost by paying a humongous cost. His sinless life and horrific death made this restoration possible.
Once a person puts their faith in who Jesus is and what He did for them, the freedom of choice is restored. They can now choose to love the Father through every choice they make using His nature (Col. 2:11; 2 Pet. 1:4), His mind (1 Cor. 2:16) and the Spirit’s power (Zech. 4:6; Eph. 6:10) given to them.
Daily life transformation depends on this truth: The freedom of choice didn’t come free; but it did come!
Therefore, praise Jesus that He paid the price to give you the freedom of choice. Thank Jesus for giving you such a life-changing gift. And then, stand firm in this truth as you rely on the Spirit in the same way Jesus did (Is. 11:1-2; Matt. 4:1) when the evil one attacks.
Let others see Jesus in you, a transformed life, by using your God-given freedom of choice in the here and now. Why? Because in Him, you can!
